Alert! Automated Hoax Phone Calls From Banks - Posted 7/8/10

Several citizens in SCP today reported receiving automated message calls purporting to be from a local bank. The recorded message advises the resident that their debit cards have been cancelled. The message further goes on to ask the customer to give or punch in their card number in order to have the card reinstated.

These calls are yet another version of a scam which attempts to get your account number so that funds can be misappropriated from you. The caller ID numbers even appear to be from a local number and bank, but are not.

You should never give any type of account numbers to anyone who contacts you first. If you have any doubts, hang up, verify your bank's phone number from an independant source, and then call your banking officer.
